Getting to church
Where is it?
St. George’s is located in La Canada-Flintridge, CA, on the south side of Foothill Blvd., between Beulah and Commonwealth Aves.
Driving to St. George’s
Coming to town using the 210 freeway, St. George’s is between the exits for Foothill Blvd. on the east (right side in this photo) and Angeles Crest Highway on the west, which intersects the 210 perpendicularly.
The easiest approach, traffic-wise, and from either direction on the 210 freeway, is to take the exit for CA 2/Angeles Crest Highway (North).
At the end of the offramp, turn south on Angeles Crest Highway.
Angeles Crest Highway comes to a T at Foothill Blvd. — Turn left onto Foothill.
Go through one traffic light (Civic Center Drive, in front of Sprouts), then you have three choices, based on where you want to park at St. George’s …
From eastbound Foothill Blvd:
(1) Turn right at the next light, Beulah Ave., then turn immediately left into the alley to St. George’s west parking lot.
(2) Go through the light at Beulah, watch for the sign for the church, and immediately past Fashion Cleaners, turn right into St. George’s west parking lot.
(3) Go through the light at Beulah and all the way to the next light at Commerce Ave. Turn right onto Commerce, then immediately turn right again into St. George’s east parking lot.
See more about parking below.
Where to park?
WEST LOT
EAST LOT
Park in the WEST lot if you need to drive west after leaving church. From the east lot, you can only turn east onto Foothill Blvd.
Park in the EAST lot if you need to unload a wheelchair from a vehicle. There are handicapped spots in both lots, but the east lot is more level for lift-assisted unloading.
Other than those two things, it doesn’t matter where you park.
There are a few more spots in the west lot than in the east.
Parking in the West lot
You can enter the west parking lot one of two ways:
Go past the light at Beulah, and turn right from Foothill Blvd. immediately after Fashion Cleaners. There’s no light or stop sign here, you just have to watch for the church sign. This takes you directly into St. George’s west parking lot.
OR, you can
Turn right onto Beulah Ave., and then immediately turn left into the alleyway across from the entrance to Sprouts. Drive through the alleyway, which takes you into St. George’s west parking lot.
(If you want to drive west after leaving church, the only way to do it is to drive back through the alley, turn right onto Beulah, and use the light at Foothill and Beulah to turn left/west.)
This is what the alley looks like, as you’re entering it.
Keep going through the alley.
OFFICE BUILDING
Entering the west parking lot from the alley, you’ll see the front end of the office building, on your right.
The church building is behind the trees in this photo, to the left of the office building.
Parking in the East lot
From Foothill Blvd., go past the light at Beulah, to the next light at Commonwealth Ave.
Turn right (south).
Then turn immediately right into St. George’s east parking lot.
The church building will be straight ahead of you, at the far end of the parking lot.
As you drive further through the parking lot, you’ll see the broad side of the church building.
(The doors you see in the middle of this photo are only the emergency exit.
The entry doors are around the corner, on the right front end.)
The parking lot turns right here, in an L, when you get to the side of the church building. That’s where most people park.
The handicapped parking spaces are the first ones to the right.
After you’ve parked,
go to the church building.
From either parking lot:
You’ll see a grassy area, the bell tower, and a low round fountain. (The fountain may be on or off.)
Wherever you’ve parked, head for the fountain and the bell tower.
(It’s a real bell that rings, but we only use it for special occasions.)
The fountain is directly in front of the entrance to the church.
The red bricks make a circle in front of the church’s entry doors.
You can enter and exit through either of the glass doors.
(They are 36 inch doors, wide enough for a wheelchair.)
One or both doors may be propped open on Sunday mornings.
Sometimes the door might look closed, but is probably being held open with a little white sponge, so it won’t lock accidentally.
It’s important to leave the white sponge in place, because the doors lock automatically if you close them.
But maybe you want to wait to go in.
BEFORE CHURCH STARTS
Some people like to greet each other and mingle a bit outside, before the worship service starts.
It’s up to you; you can wait outside or go into church as soon as you arrive.
If you need to use the restroom, click here for how to find them.
